Spread a thick mulch of compost or manure over flower beds. Shorten stems on standard and bush roses to reduce damage by wind rock. Plant new hedges when soil conditions aren't too wet or waterlogged. Prevent birds eating festive decoration fruit and berries by using netting. Check our seeds and plan for next years flowers and crops. |
Buy seeds and bulbs for growing summer flowers and crops. Dig over bare areas to break up soild, mixing in compost and manure . Repair fences and trellises and paint with preservatives to protect the wood. Plant roses, shrubs, and move any plants growing in the wrong place. Cover dormant clumps of rhubarb with pots to promote an early crop. |
Prune back clematis varieties and species that flowered late last month. Cut down miscanthus, hakonechloa, and other ornimental grasses. Plant dahlia tubers and canna lilies in posts in a warm greenhouse.
