We source fair trade products from some wonderful ethical suppliers. These suppliers tell their stories and the stories of the people that make their beautiful products. This is the story of Ian Snow, we absolutely love Ian Snow!
We work with lots of different artisans – from small not-for-profits to larger manufacturers who offer reliable employment to their local communities. We make sure all our partners provide fair wages and goodworking conditions for their employees.
We support traditional, age-old skills like hand-weaving,mehendi painting and hand block printing. Every piece you buy helps preserve these traditions for the next generation.
We work hard to minimise the environmental impact of our packaging. We use second-hand boxes wherever possible. From January 2019, we’re only sourcing items that are packaged plastic-free and naked, unless a piece is breakable.
Some of our pieces contain materials like wool that are by-products of the meat industry. Why? Because so long as people continue to eat meat, we believe it’s more sustainable (and considerate) to make sure no part of an animal is wasted.
It’s a big job, but we’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the environment:- We’ve made our Devon farm sustainable, with wind and solar power, rainwater harvesting and tree planting- We regularly test our pieces to make sure they’re made without harmful chemicals or dyes- We bring almost all our products to the UK by sea, rather than air- If a piece arrives damaged, we don’t throw it away –we mend it
Before we order any piece, we find out if it can be made from recycled or upcycled materials. And if it can’t? We look to make sure it can be made from sustainably sourced materials like jute, wool, bamboo, and wood. At the moment, we use cotton in some of our pieces. We want to reduce the environmental impact this has, so we’re looking to become members of the Better Cotton Initiative. We’re also phasing out acrylic, glitter and sequins in all our pieces.
“Buy less, choose well, make it last” – Vivienne Westwood. We know the damage fast, throwaway consumerism is causing to our environment. That’s why we encourage ‘considered purchasing’, where every piece you buy is cared for and looked after. And since all our pieces are handmade – and, in some cases, completely unique– we hope you’ll cherish them for years to come.
